. The 12th Meeting of the Hemispheric Committee for the Eradication of Foot-and-Mouth Disease (COHEFA 12) will be held in Santiago, Chile, July 24, 2012. At the meeting, the representatives of the COHEFA 12 sub regions will, pursuant to their mandate, review the regional situation of foot-and-mouth disease and the commitments to undertake actions for implementation of the 2011-2020 PHEFA Accion Plan in each country of the region, which was approved by the 2th Extraordinary COHEFA Meeting, held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in 2010. After the presentations, COHEFA 12’s resolutions will be put before the Ministers that will attend the 16th Inter-American Meeting at Ministerial Level on Health and Agriculture (RIMSA 16), which will be held at the same location, July 26-27, 2012 to reinforce the political will of the sectors involved to support the fight against foot-and-mouth disease at the last stage of its eradication from the American Continent. COHEFA was established in 1987 by the countries of the Americas to firm up the political determination, formulate strategies, define lines of action, and manage resources for the achievement of the goals established under the Hemispheric Program for the Eradication of Foot-and-Mouth Disease (PHEFA). COHEFA’s make up includes representatives of the public and private sectors of the Americas, distributed into the following sub regions: Amazon, Andean, Caribbean, Southern Cone, Mesoamerica, and North America. The COHEFA 12 will be held at the Hotel Crowne Plaza, Santiago, Chile and simultaneous translation into English, Portuguese and Spanish will be offered during the meeting. The Pan-American Foot-and-Mouth Disease Center (PANAFTOSA) of the Pan-American Health Organization/World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO) is in charge of organizing RIMSA 16, with the support and under the auspices of the Government of Chile, channeled through its Ministries of Health and Agriculture.
