About the city of Santiago
Santiago, with a population of 6,000,000, is the capital of the Republic and is located at 543 m above sea level in the country’s central part.

Climate
Temperate, with well-defined seasons that range from rainy winters with temperatures of 0º C (May thru September) to dry summers with temperatures around 30º (November thru March). Relative humidity is low. July is one of the coldest and rainiest months. You are advised to check the weather forecast before your trip:

Tourism
Santiago is located one hour and a half from the coast, where are located Valparaíso, Viña del Mar, and Isla Negra, for instance. The latter houses the Pablo Neruda Museum. Detailed tourist information can be obtained at

Transportation 
The Ministers of Agriculture and of Health who will attend RIMSA 16 will pass through VIP rooms upon landing and will have Airport-Hotel-Airport transportation at their disposal.  To make the proper arrangements we need to know their itinerary ahead of time.

International Police
To be admitted into the country, passengers should go through immigration control and present to the International Police their identification documents: I.D. card or Passport with the stamped visa (depending on the country of origin). Passengers will then proceed to the baggage claim area through the duty-free shop and go through Customs and SAG (Chile’s agricultural inspection service).

Customs
Passengers are entitled to bring in tax free those items that form part of a traveler’s baggage. A traveler’s baggage consists of:
Travel items (bags, handbags, personal effects), clothes or accessories, electric toilet appliances, items for personal use (alarm clock, camera, typewriter, and hand calculator) worn or used and appropriate for the normal use and needs of the person importing or exporting them and not for sale.
Items used solely for the exercise of the passenger’s profession or occupation, provided they are used, portable, for manual use, of simple manufacture, need no  installation for their normal use and are appropriate to the passenger’s profession or occupation.
An adult passenger (above 18) may bring in up to 400 cigarettes, 500 g of pipe tobacco, 50 cigars, and 2.5 liters of liquor.
The following items are not considered to be baggage:
- Home furniture.
- Household items, china, linen, and pictures.
- Musical instruments.
- Electronic or electric appliances, parts, and artifacts.
- Office furnishings.

Agricultural and Livestock Service (SAG)
Passengers must declare if they are bringing in the following items: Milk, butter, cream, and cheeses. Fruit, garden produce, and fresh vegetables. Meat of any kind, dried meat, and sausages. Seeds, grains, dehydrated or dried fruit. Fruit, ornamental, or forest plants or parts thereof: branches, stakes, bulbs, and other. Flowers, dried flowers, and garden plants. Woods or barks. Insects, snail, and other. Bacteria and fungi for scientific research. Bees, honey, and beeswax. Animal semen and veterinary biological and pharmaceutical products. Small animals and pets (dogs, cats, and others). Birds. Live wild species, their products or by products.

Important to bear in mind
To make a Sworn Declaration that is not truthful is a crime and may entail short- to medium-term imprisonment (61 days to three years); refusal to make a sworn declaration is subject to a fine according to the regulations.
In this area passengers will find taxi, public transportation buses, and official van counters. These means of transportation can take passengers to different parts of the city.
